Advanced Info

High levels of an amino acid by-product called homocysteine can dramatically increase the risk for cardiovascular disease and stroke. Homocysteine is formed when the body breaks down the amino acid methionine, which is found in meat and dairy products. Levels can increase due to factors such as age, sex (more predominant in males), genetics, and especially diet. Without adequate levels of vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid, homocysteine builds up in the blood rather than being further metabolized and eliminated by the body.

Vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid are all water-soluble vitamins that are not stored in the body, with the exception of B12 which is stored in the liver. Therefore, these vitamins need to be replenished daily for optimal health.

The combination of vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid helps prevent the dangerous buildup of homocysteine. The ratio of these three vitamins must be correct to have a positive effect on homocysteine levels. Each capsule provides 50 mg of vitamin B6, 400 mcg of folic acid, and 125 mcg of vitamin B12. Two capsules of Natural Factors Homocysteine formula is the recommended daily dosage or as directed by a health care practitioner.
